Narrative Literature Review
This proposal outlines planned research. Findings and conclusions will be updated only after the relevant literature has been reviewed.
Authorship: This is Lathika S's first research proposal. Lathika is recognised as the author of this proposal. Dikshita Shree S and Lathika S are the founders of Mindhelix.DL, but Dikshita is not listed as a co-author of this particular proposal unless authorship is formally updated.
Coronary arterial dominance or cardiac dominance is determined by the coronary artery that gives rise to the posterior interventricular artery commonly called as posterior descending artery PDA. The major patterns are right-dominant, left-dominant and co-dominant circulation. These anatomical variations influence the distribution of myocardial blood supply and may have clinical relevance in coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction.
To review the anatomical patterns of coronary arterial dominance and examine their documented clinical significance.
* To describe the anatomical basis and classification of coronary arterial dominance.
* To compare right-dominant, left-dominant and co-dominant coronary circulation.
* To review reported variations and prevalence of coronary dominance patterns.
* To examine published evidence on the association between coronary dominance and clinical outcomes, including myocardial infarction.
* To identify areas where further research may be needed.
A narrative literature review will be conducted using relevant published literature retrieved from databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar. Search terms may include coronary arterial dominance, coronary dominance, coronary anatomy, posterior interventricular artery, coronary circulation, anatomical variation and myocardial infarction. Relevant studies will be reviewed and thematically synthesized according to anatomical patterns, variations and clinical significance.
The review is expected to provide an integrated understanding of coronary arterial dominance, its anatomical variations and its documented relationship with clinically relevant outcomes. It will also highlight inconsistencies and potential gaps in the existing literature.
Coronary arterial dominance; coronary dominance; coronary arteries; coronary circulation; anatomical variation; myocardial infarction.
